Welcome to the leadership class’s reading blog! I know you’re excited and ready to share the details of the books and articles you read.
In the article, “C.E.O. Libraries Reveal Keys to Success“ Harriet Rubin interviews CEOs from different types of companies and discusses the genres these business leaders read. Guess what, it’s not business books! “Serious leaders who are serious readers build personal libraries dedicated to how to think, not how to compete.” Successful business people read a wide variety of topics; one of them is quoted in the article as follows: “As head of a global company, everything attracts me as a reader, books about different cultures, countries, problems. I read for pleasure and to find other perspectives on how to think or solve a problem…” Another stated: “advertising is a great field, anything prepares you for it…that gives me license to read everything.”

The article was basically about books and how many great master minds and entrepeneurs used books to help them achieve their level of success. Many successful masterminds such as Michael Moritz who is associated with google and youtube and phil knight who is known for his famous NIKE shoe brand. They keep their libraries as private as their lives. This is because books tell alot about people. The article in my opinion lacked structure. Also I felt it was quite pointless. It was rambling on about random books and people but I felt there was no real purpose for it.
Dear Mrs. Santiago this article was absolutly confusing and derange. It explain facts about master minds begind books and their intrest on the book vatieties it self. It was absolutly random and made me even more confused as i kept reading.
I would greatly appreciated if the rest of the article we had to read could actually make sence and be intresting! Thank you
Ms. Santiago i really really was very bored reading this..so i decided not to read it and just talk to luis(adam)! He is now pretending to read the article but he is really staring at the computer screen thinking “what the hell is this ****ing about??”! and im playing with his sidekick so thats basically what i did instead of read the article so now you will know why i will fail the test tomorrow!
I thought the article was boring but it made a good point. The libraries that those leaders have seemed to have a big impact on their careers. To me its really crazy to think that these people have THAT many books though.
This article was very interseting, and but not enjoyable. I lost my concentration a lot because of the noise in the space provided to work. The aticle was confusing so i think it would be better to actually go over as a class so we can get more information on it. The article is basically about books and CEOS making it big for there companys and themselves.
This article was okay, im a reader so it was pretty intresting how leaders incorporate reading into there everyday skills. This one quote stuck out to me most “Serious leaders who are serious readers build personal libraries dedicated to how to think, not how to compete.” i think this quote is very clever and is true at the same time. This article showed me that reading can be incorporated into becoming a better leader.
This article is very long and boring. Sorry I think the guy is dumb!! He keeps talking about all of these diffrent kinds of book and how everyone should expand their ways of being leaders. He also states that everyone should have a their own library of books in their own homes.
I think it’s interesting how these successful people cannot let go of book they have read before, how they become part of their lives. I never thought about books being an intimate part of people’s life, I simply saw them as a bunch of words pasted together. But learning how to incorporate these books into our lives teaches us how to become better leaders.
I really thought it was boring. But at the same time it really meant something
and i was kinda interested in him creating yahoo amd youtube!
thanks to him we can connet to everybody!
I thought that this article was not interest at all. The only thing I found a little interesting was the fact that people like the creator of you tube, yahoo, google etc. (Michael Mortiz) and the creator of Nike uses book as a way to express their success. Also, the fact that both men take their libraries so seriously was also interesting. That was all that held my attention.
I think that this article makes alot of sense. It explains how some of the best business minds accomplished success through thier libraries. Each of the poeple talked about such as Knight and Mortiz had thier own personal librarys. These libraries are based around how each of them think. The article also states somthing that is really true and really smort… “dont follow your mentor, follow your mentor’s mentor.”
I read it =P
C.E.O. Libraries Reveal Keys to Success was kind of hard to read and was a little boring. It shows that their are many people out there who are really interested in books and how big of an impact they have on their lives. To some thats what created their success. It talked about how readers bulid personal libraries and dont compete with others. Reading made them happy
This artlicle was kind of boring but intersting at the same time. It talks about how leaders need to expand their knowldedge and not just keep a one track mind. Michael Mortiz talks about how “Serious leaders who are serious readers build personal libraries dedicated to how to think, not how to compete”. i think that this is very true cause it represents a leaders.
C.E.O Libraries Reveal Keys to Success was a very LONG article. It was basically about how reading books could allow you to get very successful. These people build libraries of amazing numbers of books. The libraries made a big impact on everyones career. The amount of books they have in their libaries are incredible they never throw away any books and keep them all. I think that it is crazy to have so many books and to have read them all.
I thought this artical was extermly long and boring but i did actually learn somethings. Basically im indifferent, and its just like all the other articals we read in leadership. Its definately not one of the interesting thinsg this class has to offer but it does provided some understanding into whats going on in reality.
it was okayyy (:
This article was kind of confusing, This was about the keys to being successful.
I thought the article was long but sort of interesting. It would be cool to have a library of books in your house but then again who wants to have that. I think the guy who wrote this was kind of weird, just a little. Its weird to think a book could be a part of your life for so long but if thats what they like to do then thats what they like to do.
This article was very long but its true. Books are a very important if you want to be successful in life. Reading can teach you so much and lead you to become a successful person. There is endless amounts of things you can learn from book.
This article was about people who made alot of money in their careers and invested it into having collections of books that they read in their spare time. The people in this article consider collecting books a huge part of thier lives. One of them even admits that the books just seem to keep adding up. they have made space in their homes for libraries.
The article had several people that were very sucessful and there collection of books were like the most important thing to them. i think they are crazy to have libraries that you have to take your shoes off and bow before entering but whatever floats there boats. they also kept it private and stuff which is kind of werid. These people loved reading and knew how to be leaders.
I think books are an essential part to being C.E.O. books build your vocbulary, expand your mind and help you think more. That the only part that stands out to me. I really didnt understand the rest. But i belive that he made a good investment and that he is vey smart.
This article was very long and boring. I stIll cant really grasp the concept of it. But I think it was somewhere along the lines of something out of nothing and turning it into a multi-million dollar company.
-BRiNA B00! =]
I thought this article was really boring, but I won’t lie, it was interesting at the same time. I would expect most of these successful people to have some form of education, and what’s better than an in-home library? Nowadays there’s a book for almost everything and i’m pretty sure you can find a basic education in them. Reading educates the mind, and helps one to become successful. =]
This article was rather fascinating to me. Books have inspired me to do many things, from lending a helping hand to having the confidence to go after what I want. These CEO’s have had the same revelations with the books they have read. Right now I’m reading this book called Sophie’s World, which is a book about the history of philosophy. It is changing the way I perceive things in my every day world. I hope that when I become a rich and powerful movie producer I can start building a library with works that not only entertain but inspire the masses.
In the article, C.E.O. Libraries Reveal Keys to Success, the private libraries of C.E.O.s proved to be their inspiration. While the book subjects varied, novels were valued on their ability to share certain perspectives. As far as business goes, it didnt surprise me in the least that these CEOs had such wide ranging libraries. Of course to understand people, the first place to settle is within the lines of a book, fiction or nonfiction. Books reveal true emotions as well as a multitude of cultures and living situations. The more one reads, the more one understands; It’s simple.
Personally, since school has started, I have not been able to consistently read a novel. I am still working on finishing the last Harry Potter book, which I was previously preserving because I didn’t want to feel like the series was actually over. I still have about 200 pages to read…please nobody spoil it for me…I seriously will never speak to you again. The Harry Potter series absolutely amazes me and I guess it is inspiring to know that this entire world was imagined by one person. I am also in the process of reading Sophie’s World which is required for AP European History. I’ve only read a few pages but am looking forward to reading it. Sophie’s World deals with philosophical questions and historical time periods. On top of that, I also need to read Life of Pi for AP Lit. I haven’t looked forward to reading Life of Pi at all. I do judge books by their cover…and back cover… and it just does not interest me. Most of my friends said it was enjoyable, so hopefully it won’t be too bad. That’s it for now, although I don’t feel like I’ll ever reach a point where I’ve read every novel I wish to read.
The article was all about books and how great members of our society , entrepeneurs, and masterminds used books to help them get where they are. Many of them, for example. Micheal Moritz who is associated with goole and youtube
and Phil Knight who is known for his famous nike shoe brand; keep their libraries as private as their personnal lives. This is because books tell alot about them personally. I think the article was long, boring, and random.
The end.

I wouldn’t expect sucessful business people to read business books. The fact that they read to see other perspectives is what makes them good business people, even if it has nothing to do with their subject of business. I personally don’t read for fun, but I try to take whatever I can from the books that I do read. I love to see how other people experience situations, & books with a lot of intresting details gets me into it. I try to take what they do, and how they speak & describe things, and translate that into my views & how I would handle or describe a situation.
Either way, you can’t describe how to be a good business person in a book, no matter how good of a writer you are. It’s more of a natural ability.
big heads must have big librarys. the key to their success is their librarys. they hold these librarys very close to them, because they are extremely personalized, and help them succed everyday
this article was about how mostly every CEO in a major multi-million dollah industry have theor own libraries. each and everyone of them have different intrest. some like roman history other asian hortory or galileo. but this proves that reading books out of your daily life become helpful later on.
